The goal of dental implants is to replace the roots of missing teeth. Does that mean, then, that you need an implant for each and every missing tooth? No, not necessarily. In fact, thanks to the innovative All-on-4 method, Dr. Samia and our Garner team may be able to replace a full arch of teeth with as few as four implants! How does this process work, and what are the benefits of this unique approach to tooth replacement? Continue reading below to find out, or contact our office directly to ask questions. We look forward to speaking with you!

How Do All-on-4 Dental Implants Work?

All-on-4 is sometimes called Teeth in a Day because in just one appointment, we may be able to remove your remaining natural teeth, place your dental implants, and provide you with a temporary denture. The implants are placed at strategic locations in the bone (two in the front and two in the back at an angle), utilizing areas that are naturally strong and thick. Therefore, they can support artificial teeth right away.

Later, after a healing period, the temporary denture gets replaced by a permanent one. From start to finish, the entire All-on-4 process may take a few months or longer.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants?

You might be a candidate for All-on-4 dental implants if:

  • You are missing all or most of your teeth throughout one of your dental arches.
  • Your remaining natural teeth are in poor condition.
  • You are free of active gum disease and other oral health problems that might interfere with your implants’ success.
  • You are healthy enough to undergo minor surgery.
  • Your jawbone is strong enough and large enough to support dental implants. (Most patients meet this requirement, even without a bone graft.)

If you are unsure whether you qualify for All-on-4, visit us for a consultation. Most patients can get this procedure, either right away or after preliminary care.

Benefits of All-on-4 Dental Implants

Here are some of the most outstanding benefits of All-on-4 treatment:

  • A strong and sturdy bite: The strategic placement and angling of the implants provide excellent support for a denture, so you can dig into even tough and hearty foods with confidence.
  • Improved oral function: All-on-4 dental implants can allow you to eat, speak, and smile confidently without worrying about your denture shifting or loosening.
  • Aesthetic and natural appearance: The design and placement of All-on-4 dentures offer a natural-looking smile that complements your natural facial structure.
  • Jawbone preservation: Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, helping to prevent the deterioration that normally occurs after tooth loss.
  • Convenience: An All-on-4 denture is designed to remain in your mouth 24/7, so you can treat it similarly to natural teeth.

All-on-4 vs. Traditional Dental Implants

There are some key differences between All-on-4 and traditional dental implants:

  • Number of implants: All-on-4 utilizes only four strategically placed implants to support a full arch of teeth, making it a less invasive and more cost-effective solution than traditional implants, which may use 6 – 8 posts to support a denture.
  • Treatment timeline: All-on-4 has a faster overall procedure — you can get new teeth on the same day as your implant surgery! Traditional implants usually involve a longer process with multiple surgical procedures.
  • Bone grafting: All-on-4 minimizes the need for bone grafting by using angled implants to maximize existing bone structure. Bone grafts are more common with traditional implants.
  • Versatility: All-on-4 provides excellent jawbone stimulation and preservation for an entire dental arch in one comprehensive treatment. Traditional implants are ideal for patients with localized tooth loss who need precise implant placement without altering adjacent areas.
  • Stability: In some cases, using more posts with traditional implants offers greater stability and strength than All-on-4.
